Philadelphia 0 Man Utd 1
Philadelphia Union 0 Manchester United 1, Lincoln Financial Field, Friendly Match, July 21, 2010. Manchester United beat Philadelphia Union 1-0 as France U21 international Gabriel Obertan hit the only goal of the tie to hand the visitors the win. United sealed the victory against the Major League Soccer outfit on 76 minutes when a pass by Danny Welbeck gave the winger the chance to find the back of the net with a shot from close range.
Despite of the fact that Gabriel Obertan had yet to make a real impact with Manchester United, the flank forward produced some breathtaking skills during the friendly encounter in Philadelphia. Obertan registered the winning goal for United in the 76th minute of the tussle when he collected an excellent ball from Danny Welbeck and finished clinically. Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov almost scored a second goal for Manchester United with ten minutes remaining on the referee´s watch, but his powerful shot from the inside of the penalty area hit the underside of the crossbar. And although the well-disciplined home team played with both aggression and determination, the sheer professionalism and quality of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side was quite enough to see them through. Nevertheless, the fast flowing match in Philadelphia was no doubt another excellent pre-season work out for the Old Trafford players. After defeating Philadelphia 1-0, Manchester United would now make the trip to Kansas City to take on Kansas City Wizards in the City of Fountains.
