Rangers 0 Manchester Utd 1
Glasgow Rangers 0 Manchester United 1, Ibrox Stadium, UEFA Champions League Group Stage, November 24, 2010. After playing out a rather dull goalless draw against Rangers at Old Trafford the previous month, Manchester United defeated The Gers 1-0 in the return meeting in Glasgow. The winner arrived in the 87th minute of the encounter when Wayne Rooney found the net from the penalty spot.
A late penalty conversion from Wayne Rooney took Manchester United into the last sixteen of the UEFA Champions League. The Barclays Premier League outfit did most of the attacking against Scottish Premier League Champions Rangers at Ibrox and the visitors from England came close to taking the lead five minutes ahead of the interval when a cross from Fabio da Silva found Rooney whose header hit the crossbar. After the refreshments break, Ryan Giggs delivered a perfect cross to Dimitar Berbatov eight minutes into the second half, but his effort went over the bar. Then, with only three minutes remaining of the midweek group fixture, Manchester United were rightfully awarded a penalty by Swiss match official Massimo Busacca following a high challenge from Scotland international Steven Naismith on Fabio and Rooney stepped up to execute the subsequent spot-kick which he converted.
