Af­ter loan spells wi­th Shef­field Uni­ted, Pre­ston North End, Ports­mouth, and Nor­wich City, Ritch­ie De Laet made a move to Lei­cester City at the end of the 2011-12 cam­paign af­ter hav­ing played in on­ly three Pre­mier Lea­gue mat­ches for Man­chester Uni­ted. Fol­low­ing four sea­sons wi­th the King Power Sta­dium club, the de­fens­ive all round­er agreed to a three-year con­tract wi­th new­ly re­leg­ated Cham­pi­on­ship si­de As­ton Vil­la at the front end of the 2016-17 sea­son. A Bel­gi­um in­ter­na­tion­al, De Laet was giv­en his de­but for The Red Dev­ils as a sec­ond ha­lf sub­sti­tute for ex­per­i­enced Bor­us­sia Monchenglad­bach left full­back Filip Daems in a 1-1 Kir­in Cup draw ag­ainst Chile at Fukuda Den­shi Arena in the city of Chiba in Ja­pan on the 29th of May 2009, but the de­fender on­ly made one more ap­pear­ance for the coun­try of his bir­th.
