Sir Alex Ferguson

Arsenal 1 Manchester United 1, Emirates Stadium, English Premier League, April 28, 2013. Manchester United gained a 1-1 draw against Arsenal in their penultimate away fixture of the 2012-13 season. Theo Walcott gave the hosts the lead in the second minute, only for Robin van Persie to equalise for United with a well-taken penalty shortly before the break.

Match official Phil Dowd handed Manchester United a penalty after Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna had clumsily brought down Robin van Persie inside the eighteen-yard area in the 44th minute of the match. With the calmness of a Buddhist monk, the Manchester United and Netherlands international striker scored his 25th Premier League goal of the 2012-13 campaign for The Reds with a brilliantly executed spot kick to make the score one all. The pendulum swung back and forth during the second half, but in the end there were no more goals, and the game at the Emirates Stadium ended in a draw. After the closely contested encounter between Arsenal and Manchester United, Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson singled out Robin van Persie for special praise. Sir Alex Ferguson: “Robin van Persie kept his nerve, that was important. It was a difficult time for him, the chanting from the fans doesn’t help, but he kept his cool. Arsenal set off at a fantastic pace, very aggressive and a lot of tackles and I think that the referee just couldn´t keep up. Manchester United have one of the best disciplinary records in the country. For us to have five players booked I don´t think that´s right.” Arsenal Team: Wojciech Szczesny, Bacary Sagna, Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Kieran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski.
