England 4 Lithuania 0

England defenders Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Nathaniel Clyne, and Phil Jones had very little to do and had few problems during the clash with the minnows of Lithuania. The English team dominated from the start and with less than ten minutes into the action, Wayne Rooney sent the home team ahead with a close range header from some six yards out after a shot from his former Manchester United teammate Danny Welbeck had been blocked by Steaua Bucurest goalminder Giedrius Arlauskis. The Arsenal marksman then doubled England´s lead when his header deflected off unlucky Lithuania central defender Tadas Kijanskas and into the net in the 45th of minute of the European Championships Qualifying match. After the resumption of the play, Liverpool flanker Raheem Sterling followed up as the twenty-year-old converted home a low cross from Rooney thirteen minutes into the second half of the match, before England debutant Harry Kane scored the final goal of the night with a powerful header from close range in the 73rd minute of the fixture. After recording his 47th goal in 102 games for his native country, Wayne Rooney was now two goals shy of equalling Sir Bobby Charlton’s national scoring record of 49. Rooney recieved his first full cap for England in a 3-1 international friendly defeat to Australia at Boleyn Ground on the 12th of February 2003, and scored his first goal for The Three Lions when he hit the equaliser in a 2-1 2004 European Championship Qualifier win over Macedonia at the Gradski Stadion on the 6th of September the same year.
