And athough Roy Hodg­son had to make do with­out the ser­vices of Man­chester Uni­ted play­er Mi­chael Car­rick, Fa­bi­an Delph of As­ton Vil­la, and Tot­ten­ham Hotspur´s An­dros Town­send due to vari­ous in­jur­ies, his te­am had no prob­lems in de­feat­ing Sreko Katanec’s Slov­e­nia si­de at Wemb­ley. The Slov­e­ni­ans went in­to a shock 1-0 lead, tho­ugh, when Liver­pool mid­fielder Jor­dan Hen­derson ma­naged to put the ball in­to the back of his own net in the 57th min­ute of the en­counter. But shortly af­ter­wards, Man­chester Uni­ted marks­man Way­ne Roo­ney cel­eb­rated his 100th ap­pear­ance for his coun­try by con­vert­ing from the pen­alty spot in the 59th min­ute of the mat­ch, be­fore Ar­senal stri­ker Dan­ny Wel­beck ad­ded two more goals for the hosts in the 65th, and 72nd min­ute re­spect­ively. Af­ter com­ing from be­hind to over­come Slov­e­nia by 3-1, Eng­land had now ma­naged to win all of their open­ing four Euro­pean Cham­pi­on­ship Qual­i­fy­ing ga­mes.
