John­stone ev­entually sig­ned a four-year con­tract wi­th new­ly re­leg­ated West Brom­wich Al­bion for a trans­fer fee es­tim­ated to be in the re­gion of £6.5 mil­lion at the be­gin­ning of the 2018-19 sea­son, and the net cus­todi­an was giv­en his com­pet­it­ive de­but for The Bag­gies by re­cently ap­poin­ted head coach Dar­ren Moore in a 2-1 Cham­pi­on­ship de­feat to Bol­ton Wan­derers at The Haw­thorns on the 4th of Au­gust 2018.
