Scotland 2 England 0
Scotland 2 England 0, British Home Championship, Hampden Park, May 18, 1974. Joe Jordan enjoyed a good game as Scotland overcame bitter enemies England by 2-0 at Hampden Park.
The England players screamed for a penalty-kick when Martin Peters, who played his 67th international for his county, was brought down inside the box by Scotland defender John Blackley a couple of minutes into the first half, but Dutch referee Leo van der Kroft took no notice. The home team eventually found their rhythm and took the advantage in the fourth minute of the tussle as Mike Pejic deflected a shot from Joe Jordan into his own net after Peter Shilton had failed to hold an effort from Peter Lorimer. The Tartan Terriers now smelled blood and the hosts doubled their lead on the half-hour mark when Three Lions midfield playmaker Colin Bell managed to put a low cross from Lorimer past Shilton and into the goal. Joe Mercer´s England side had a number of decent goal scoring opportunities in the second half of the tie, but none of them were converted into goals.
