Andreas Weimann handed The Villains a comfortable two-goal lead, but a brace by Javier Hernandez plus an own goal from Dutch defender Ron Vlaar earned the visitors a narrow win.
After collecting another three important points against seventeenth positioned Aston Villa in Birmingham, Sir Alex Ferguson´s Manchester United were now topping the Premiership table with twenty-seven points after winning their last five Premier League matches. Sir Alex Ferguson: “It is a magnificent game, I must say that. Aston Villa have done fantastic today, they have run their socks off, and you have to feel sorry for them the effort they put in, but we never gave in and hit the bar twice in the second half, but once we got the second goal we came alive and it was a fantastic game. We have put pressure on ourselves today, but we came through it and that´s a lesson that we really need to be better in defence.
