Norwich City 1 Manchester United 0, Carrow Road, English Premier League, November 17, 2012. Norwich City beat Manchester United 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Anthony Pilkington fifteen minutes into the second half. After losing to The Canaries, Sir Alex Ferguson´s men were now trailing table leaders Manchester City by a point in the battle for the title.

The 1-0 loss against Chris Hughton´s Norwich City was Manchester United’s third defeat of the 2012-13 Premier League season. Anthony Pilkington settled a tight affair when he headed a cross from Javier Garrido past Anders Lindegaard on the stroke of the hour mark to give City their first win over United since the 9th of April 2005. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had no complaints after the match, however, admitting that his Old Trafford players were beaten by the better side. Sir Alex Ferguson: “Norwich deserved it because they worked so hard for it. We had a lot of possession and one or two half-chances without having any great chances. It just wasn’t our night. We’re disappointed to lose the game, obviously, but we have to give credit to City for the way they fought and battled for every ball on the pitch. To work as hard as that takes a really special effort. Norwich got plenty of men behind the ball and closed down spaces. And we just couldn’t get our crosses in. At times you have to recognise when opponents have played beyond themselves.” Norwich City Team: John Ruddy, Sebastien Bassong, Michael Turner, Steven Whittaker, Javier Garrido, Wes Hoolahan, Bradley Johnson, Anthony Pilkington, Robert Snodgrass, Alex Tettey, Grant Holt.
