Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United 1 Newcastle United 1, Old Trafford, English Premier League, November 26, 2011. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was hopping mad after the controversial 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at Old Trafford. After taking the lead four minutes into the second period thanks to a goal from Javier Hernandez, the firebrand manager exploded when his side had a debatable spot-kick awarded against them after 62 minutes of play.

It was without doubt a disappointing and frustrating result for Sir Alex Ferguson, and with cross-town enemies Manchester City drawing 1-1 against Liverpool at Anfield, Manchester United remained five points short of The Sky Blues in the Premier League title race. At the other end of the Premiership table, Bolton Wanderers found themselves in the relegation zone along with neighbouring clubs Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers. Sir Alex Ferguson: “The penalty decision was an absolute travesty. Everyone was astounded. Referee Mike Jones thought Rio Ferdinand won the ball and gave a corner, and he was in a far better position to judge than assistant referee John Flynn because he was only about eight yards away. He has let the linesman overrule him and he was put in a terrible position. The problem is that the referees are full-time and the linesmen are not, and whether he ever gets a game again is not for me to decide but it was an absolutely shocking decision.” Manchester United Team: David de Gea, Fabio da Silva, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Ashley Young, Michael Carrick, Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney, Luis Nani. Substitutes: Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Darron Gibson, Ji-Sung Park, Federico Macheda, Anders Lindegaard.
