Schalke 0 Manchester United 2, Veltins Arena, UEFA Champions League Semi-Final First Leg, April 26, 2011. Sir Alex Ferguson was left beaming as Manchester United beat FC Schalke 04 by 2-0. A goal each from Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney was more than enough to defeat the North Rhine-Westphalia side in the first leg of the Champions League Semi-Finals.

Evergreen Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs netted the first goal of the encounter in Gelsenkirchen as he rifled a left foot shot under the home netminder after 67 minutes of action before Wayne Rooney added the second only two minutes later in the match. Sir Alex Ferguson: “There was a frustration towards the end of the first half when Manuel Neuer made that final save from Ryan Giggs. When that move broke down, our players started walking back and I sensed their frustration. I had to correct that at half-time. What broke the back of the camel was Javier Hernandez´s goal which was offside in the 50th minute. The players realised then that they could beat the Schalke goalkeeper.” Schalke Team: Manuel Neuer, Christoph Metzelder, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Atsuto Uchida, Joel Matip, Alexander Baumjohann, Jose Jurado, Hans Sarpei, Edu, Jefferson Farfan, Raul.
