Sir Alex Ferguson

Fulham 0 Manchester United 1, Craven Cottage, English Premier League, February 2, 2013. Three Lions international Wayne Rooneys recorded the only goal of the match as Manchester United edged out mid-tablers Fulham by a 1-0 margin at Craven Cottage. The victory against The Cottagers left Sir Alex Ferguson men ten points ahead of crosstown rivals and fellow title chasers Manchester City.

Fulham´s Craven Cottage was plunged into darkness as the floodlights failed to function only a couple of minutes before the half-time break. Fortunately, the power returned some five minutes later and the two teams came back to play out the rest of the match. With just eleven minutes remaining on the watch of referee Kevin Friend, Manchester United ultimately managed to break the defensive deadlock when Wayne Rooney rifled a well-placed curling shot past Fulham and Australia goaltender Mark Schwarzer and into the back of the net just inside the right post to give the Old Trafford side a hard-fought and fully deserved 1-0 triumph against the West Londoners. Sir Alex Ferguson: “There was a great determination about us. I thought they were really up for it, the players, making sure they weren’t going to lose the game. They´ve had a great home record over the years and that’s a really important result for us. When you look at our performance, you saw players who were prepared to put their body on the line. We blocked shots, had great headers out of the defence, it was a really determined effort by the players and we still played our football into the bargain.” Fulham Team: Mark Schwarzer, Sascha Reither, John Arne Riise, Phillipe Senderos, Brede Hangeland, Giorgos Karagounis, Ashkan Dejagah, Christopher Baird, Damien Duff, Bryan Ruiz, Hugo Rodallega Marinez.
