Following the resumption of the contest, David May reduced the deficit for United as the defender converted a free-kick from Beckham eleven minutes into the second period, but the home team hit back with goals from Berkovic and Ostenstad in the 83rd and 85th minutes respectively. Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes then registered a third consolation goal for the visiting side with an effort from a few yards out on 89 minutes before defender Gary Neville managed to put the ball into his own net a minute later, thus making the final score 6-3 to the hosts.
