Man United 4 Queens Park 0
Scottish centre forward Jimmy Turnbull, who had netted 14 goals in 31 first team appearances for Manchester United during the championship winning season of 1907-08, opened the scoring account for The Reds in the 23rd minute of the encounter when the impressive striker headed home a cross from Welsh outside forward Billy Meredith and the Bannockburn born player added a second goal for the Bank Street outfit only five minutes later to hand his side a comfortable 2-0 lead at the half-time break. Manchester United continued to pour forward following the resumption of action and Ernest Mangnall´s troops were rewarded when former Barnsley winger George Wall beat Queens Park Rangers shot stopper Charlie Shaw in the 56th minute of the tie before Turnbull notched up his third goal of the afternoon with fifteen minutes remaining of the contest. During the latter stages of the clash, the unfortunate Jimmy Bannister had to leave the field with an injury and Manchester United finished the match at Stamford Bridge reduced to ten players. As regards Jimmy Turnbull, the reliable and consistent marksman would go on to amass 45 goals in 78 first class games for Manchester United before he was transferred to Second Division club Bradford Park Avenue in September 1910.
