The pre-sea­son friendly mar­ked the re­turn of Ne­manja Vid­ic who had suf­fered a knee in­jury in the 2-1 Cham­pi­ons Lea­gue Group Sta­ge loss to FC Basel at St. Jakob-Park on the 7th of Dec­ember 2011. 

Man­chester Uni­ted dom­in­ated pos­ses­sion from the be­gin­ning and Eng­land in­ter­na­tion­al Dan­ny Wel­beck came clo­se to scor­ing twice in the fir­st pe­riod, on­ly to be denied by Valer­enga shot stop­per Gud­mund Kong­shavn on bo­th oc­ca­sions. Shortly be­fore the sound of the ha­lf-time whistle, Ni­geri­an stri­ker Ahmed Sulei­man al­most net­ted for the ho­me te­am, but his head­er went just a few in­ches wide of the up­right. Oli­veira An­der­son, Javi­er Her­nandez, Shinji Ka­gawa, Jesse Lin­gard, and Nick Pow­ell all came on as sub­stitutes af­ter the break, but no­ne of them made a ser­i­ous im­pact. And al­though Man­chester Uni­ted, who were su­per­vised by as­sist­ant man­ager Mi­ke Phelan, en­joyed sev­er­al goal scor­ing op­por­tun­it­ies as the sec­ond ha­lf pro­gressed, the Eng­lish Pre­mier Lea­gue si­de failed to find the net and the con­test in Oslo fin­ished goal­less.
