Wim­bledon 1 Man­chester Uni­ted 2, Sel­hurst Park, Eng­lish Pre­mier Lea­gue, May 9, 1993. Al­ready crow­ned FA Pre­mier Lea­gue Cham­pi­ons Man­chester Uni­ted be­at Wim­bledon 2-1 in their fi­nal ga­me of the 1992-93 cam­paign. Goals by Paul In­ce and Bry­an Rob­son gave Uni­ted a 2-0 lead be­fore Dean Holdsworth sco­red a late con­sol­a­tion for the hosts.

The fir­st ever Eng­lish Pre­mier Lea­gue sea­son would ev­entually be­come a two-horse race in­volving As­ton Vil­la and Man­chester Uni­ted and the two clubs were run­ning neck and neck un­til The Vil­lains suf­fered a 1-0 de­feat ag­ainst re­leg­a­tion threat­ened Old­ham Ath­let­ic at Vil­la Park in their pen­ul­tim­ate en­counter of the cam­paign. In their sea­son-end­ing mat­ch ag­ainst Wim­bledon at Sel­hurst Park, Man­chester Uni­ted dom­in­ated pos­ses­sion and pres­sure from the be­gin­ning, but Al­ex Ferguson´s men were un­able to find a goal be­fore the ha­lf-time break. The Pre­mier Lea­gue cham­pi­ons con­tin­ued to search for an open­ing goal in the sec­ond pe­riod and their of­fens­ive ef­forts ev­entually paid off as Paul In­ce sco­red wi­th a de­flec­ted shot from out­side the pen­alty box in the 63rd min­ute of the con­test. Lif­ted by the open­ing goal and spurred on by the trav­el­ling sup­port­ers, Man­chester Uni­ted had their sec­ond on­ly sev­en min­utes la­ter when a long free-kick by de­fender Ga­ry Pal­lister fou­nd the un­marked Bry­an Rob­son who cooly pla­ced the ball pa­st Wim­bledon net­mind­er Hans Segers and in­to the bot­tom right-hand cor­ner of the net. And eight min­utes af­ter­wards In­ce al­most ad­ded a third goal for the vis­it­ors as the mid­field play­er smash­ed a high back pass from Ma­rk Hug­hes just a few in­ches over the cross­bar. Then, wi­th the clock wind­ing down, Dean Holdsworth fi­nally net­ted a con­sol­a­tion for The Dons as the pre­vi­ous Brent­ford stri­ker be­at away cus­todi­an Pe­ter Schmei­chel wi­th a clo­se ran­ge head­er in the 81st min­ute of the tie. The win­ning goal of the ga­me was sco­red by en­fant ter­rible Vin­nie Jones three min­utes be­fore the ha­lf-time break.
